Claire's Flying Start is an extension of Claire's Country Childcare in Horwood and is owned by Claire Symons. I opened Claire's Country Childcare in 1996. I have been a qualified Nursery Nurse since 1985 having worked on the Children's ward at the North Devon District Hospital since then. It was always my ambition to open my own daycare nursery and my hospital knowledge has proved to be benenficial to my nursery manager's role. I am married to a farmer and have 3 children of my own, Thomas, Oliver and Rebecca.

The nursery is open 51 weeks of the year, from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday. We have three rooms which make up Flying Start. We cater for up to 25 children under 5 years of age.

Ladybirds caters for our youngest children this has a large playroom for our babies and a sleeping area wherethe babies can sleep in cots. Fran is the ladybirds supervisor. Dragonflies cater for our 2-3 year olds which Aimee the Deputy, Supervises and plans activities for. We have qualified staff that alternate between these 2 rooms. Downstairs is our Bumble Bees pre-school room which Marianna runs with Megan working alongside.

The team consists of Jill Vanstone - Manager, Aimee Rogers - Deputy.
Nursery teacher: Lynsey Owen.
Nursery Nurses: Marianna Clatworthy, Fran Plows and Megan Cook.
Nursery Assisstants: Sam Squires, Laura Benstead and Julie Roberts.

Marianna, Lynsey and Megan plan activites incorporating curriculum for the Bumble Bees. They look at each Child's individual needs and make sure their learning goals are met. Aimee does this for Dragonflies and Fran used PLOD sheets for the Ladybirds.

Jill is responsible for Behaviour Management and also any safegaurding issues. Aimee is the SENCO for the setting.
